I am still thinking about writing about sampling for my dissertation. But I have a massive interest in sound design.
My best option is to research both of the subjects this week so that I can broaden my knowledge in both fields.
I have managed to get my hands on the book ‘Designing sound’ by Andy Farnell for some extra reading.
After a tutorial last week I have changed my mind about my major project. I am going to create a Kontakt instrument or effect.
Instrument idea –
- Create an instrument from samples I have created
- Possible bass instrument with effects
- Use of foley or sound design
Effect idea –
- Including filter presets
- User friendly
From researching about creating an add on in Konatakt it looks like there is no easy way or tutorial on creating an effect.
I am going to look into this in more detail and see if there is a way I could create my own plug in.
I have finished ten loops that I have sent over to samplephonics, Richard got back to me on Facebook saying this.
Hopefully he likes the sounds and I can develop on finishing my first major sample pack!
Here’s the original message Richard sent me.
Samplephonics messaged me about a month ago asking me if I would like to produce some content for them. I have managed to speak to richard meller on the phone and he has asked me to create 10 loops for them in the style of drum and bass. I am currently working on a mixture of bass loops, music loops and drum loops, which I will send over to them this week.
For my dissertation I am considering writing about the use of sampling and how it has changed from old skool methods. Talking about sampling in 90’s hip hop and how modern day sampling is completely different, with the use of the internet, illegal downloads, copyright issues and the ease of sample packs. Has the modern day producer got an original sound?
For my major project I want to produce a range of different sample packs for some industry standard companies. They will range In different styles and include original bass loops, music loops and drum loops. Also, I am going to contact labels I have worked with in the past and see if they are up for doing a label based sample pack.
Another idea I have is to create sound design for a games designer or company. I would like to experiment with synchronizing audio to game and creating original motifs for characters and locations.
